~Essay 3~
~Crime and Punishment~

Crime and punishment is a very big issue in a modern society. One can only try to perfect a nation to such an extent. Even if the ruler of the nation does try their hardest to perfect the society of their land the likeliness of this occurrence is still going to remain very slim. Crime is going to happen in any society. We also happen to be in a modern day and age where crime is imminent. Crime is unnecessary yet is nonetheless part of society, no matter what we say. With crime comes punishment, no exceptions.

Why must we punish those whom are in offense of this law? We cannot and will not allow such low level forms of life and/ or society. Murjanica is and will remain a civilized nation until some bitter day may just possibly come upon us and diminish our advanced, civilized, respected for of government/ way of life/ society. We intend to keep this nation running extremely smooth and with issues like crime disturbing our peace this will never be possible. Crime is bad, it is a very simple concept to grasp. Very simply put crime is bad, when one does a bad action they must be punished, therefore when someone commits a crime they need to be punished.

Why punish, why not give multiple chances, why not destroy completely? Punishment is part of a learning experience. We in Murjanica believe that life itself is just one big learning experience. So by punishing someone for their wrong action in most cases that person will learn from their mistake. If the criminals were given multiple chances they would never learn from their mistake because nothing bad would happen to them when they committed the crime. They would never really understand that what they are doing is wrong. We will never kill a person immediately for an offense (murder) or in a minor offense. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior because it is cruel and unusual punishment, which the nation of Murjanica is strictly against. In addition to these reasons prior mentioned this method would be an extreme consequence.

Yes, the nation of Murjanica believes in punishment, consequences (good and bad) and correcting wrong doings but some methods are too extreme. For example, a man litters an immediately he is put to death. Another example of this kind of extreme case would be if a person stole a package of gum from a convenient and he immediately is sentenced to a minimum of twenty years in the military. We also cannot be too lenient as mentioned previously in the paragraph above. If a man were to murder another man for any reason we could not just simply let them free with many chances or even just one more chance to “correct” their actions. Suppose someone who was very close to your heart like a family member, close friend, etc. had just been murdered, would you not want the murderer to be set free? Of course not! You would want the murderer to be locked up in jail forever or to be put to death even.

Crime and punishment is a matter of what the country as a whole sees as “correct” consequences. It is a matter of extremes. I am glad to report that here in Murjanica we will strive to find what is known as a happy medium. Some regulations have already been set up and more will be added and specified.
